Grinding, Polishing & Finishing Abrasives
Metal abrasives remove excess material from your workpiece to finish with a clean and polished product. Waters Industrial offers a wide variety of industrial abrasive tools, discs, pads, and compounds to get your work finished properly.
Abrasive Pads & Belts
Choose the right abrasive tools for your project:
5-point abrasive pads are best for grinding, polishing, weld blending and removal work on irregular shapes and parts. As pad corners wear down, fresh abrasive is exposed for consistent removal power. 5-point pads can be used on stainless steel, steel, and aluminum.
Square metal abrasive pads are ideal for ID & OD weld removal and finishing, as well as blending and finishing on stainless steel, steel, and aluminum.
Abrasive cross pads should be used for light stock removal and finishing inner diameters of stainless steel pipes and tubes. Cross pads offer greater flexibility than square pads when dealing with inner dimensions. The point of contact remains visible throughout the finishing process.
Available abrasive belt types include:
- Aluminum oxide: made with a strong cloth backing and grinding additives for heat-sensitive alloys.
- Ceramic: top-of-the-line ceramic abrasive grain and special aluminum oxide minerals on a YF-weight synthetic backing. Ceramic belts incorporate grinding aids for best performance on stainless steel and hi-nickel alloys.
- Surface conditioning: coarse-grit surfacing conditioning belts are used for rust removal, decorative finishing, grind line conditioning and blending on a variety of metals including stainless steel.
- Trizact™: resin bonded to resist heat and feature grinding aids for cooler grinding. Use a Trizact™ belt for slack of belt operations, sharp inside radius sanding, and edge of belt sanding. The scalloped edges will not dig into your workpiece.
Premium Abrasives for Multiple Applications
Cutting Abrasives
Cutting abrasives offer precise performance for shaping metal, trimming welds and cutting sheet materials. 3M cutting abrasives are designed to cut ferrous metals, stainless steels, alloy steels and cast irons and deliver clean, accurate results for various cutting tasks.
Grinding Abrasives
3M grinding abrasives are built to reliably perform heavy material removal and surface preparation and excel at removing welds and smoothing rough surfaces for consistent, high-efficiency performance even in the toughest conditions.
Deburring Abrasives
Perfect for smoothing sharp edges and removing burrs after cutting or machining, 3M deburring abrasives, such as sanding discs and surface conditioning belts, create safe, polished surfaces quickly and effectively to prepare metal for further blending or polishing stages.
Blending Abrasives
Using advanced nonwoven and mineral technologies, 3M blending abrasives, such as surface conditioning discs, remove surface imperfections like tool marks or weld seams to create a seamless, uniform finish ready for polishing.
Polishing Abrasives
Polishing abrasives from 3M deliver a professional finish by removing fine scratches and refining surfaces to a high-gloss shine, achieving polished, mirror-like results across various metal surfaces.
Custom starter abrasive kits are available with every part you may need. Starter packages can include straight, extension and right-angle pneumatic grinders, coated discs, grinding discs and flap discs, and your choice of metal polishing wheels and cutoff wheels. For fast grind-blending, thin and standard five-point pads or square pads will get the best blend on your unique job. No metal project is complete without finishing buffs, compounds and abrasive and surface conditioning belts.
