Here we have a grinding machine known as a Waters Stroke Sander. The stroke sander is designed to put specified finishes on large, flat metal parts. The stroke sander is made up of three main parts: the large table to hold the workpiece, the abrasive belt suspended between two wheels, and the guide rail with accessories mounted in the middle. The accessories run inside the belt track. This particular model has a table size of 100 long by 30 wide. The grinding belt on this model is 264 long by 6 wide. The left wheel is the drive wheel that is driven by a 5 hp three-phase motor. The right wheel is the tensioning wheel used to properly tension the belt and track the belt if necessary. On the guide rail, we have mounted in this position the pressure pad which is standard with the machine so it actually puts pressure on the workpiece as the belt is turning. Also, there is an optional contact wheel attachment that has a fairly narrow footprint and acts very aggressively with the abrasive belt.

Also standard with the stroke sander is a hand block which can be used to apply pressure on the back of the belt and onto the workpiece by hand. And also a graphite impregnated glove which can be used to polish uneven flatness imperfections. The table also has a fence that keeps the part from skidding. There are two sizes of the stroke sander that are bigger than this model and also two sizes that are smaller. The two smaller sizes are a 48x25 table and a 72x28 table. The larger models have table sizes of 128x30 and 144x30.
